Well as the Weather here has been very nice in New York for the past week (70-85) I decided to pack up the FT-817ND and my two trusty portable antennas. My Buddipole and PAR EF 10/20/40.
First I threw the end fed into a small nearby pine and secured the other end with the matchbox to the picnic table in the park. Being a weekday there was not many people around the park and a great day to pull in some RF from outside. My first contact was a 4 lander from Florida on 20 using only 2.5 watts SSB! Not bad I thought, I continued making regular contacts on the par and then set up my tripod with the B-stick set to 17 meters. Worked 6 stations with one being in Nebraska with 5 watts! 40 meters was very interesting as I held a QSO with a guy in North Carolina with only 500 mw!! Pretty amazing I thought. We talked back and forth for a good 1/2 hour and then I had to sign off as my 7ah gell cell was starting to some real signs of drain.
I like QRP and wanted to share some of my mini QRP adventures with the rest of you. Being new here I am looking forward to seeing your comments to my ramblings. I will be uploading some photos and video on the next go around. I will be operating again tomorrow from a local state park not to far from my QTH. 73 to all. Mike KC2PLJ
