A new duplexer has been installed in the repeater system. The model number is Celwave PD526-4-2, and it is the first true repeater style duplexer to be used in the repeater system.
In the past, mobile style or “flat pack” duplexer were used and provided decent results. This larger and more robust duplexer will allow for better performance. This duplexer shows about 100 db of separation between the transmitter and receiver, which is an improvement from a mobile style duplexer. The trade off is rack space, as this duplexer is significantly larger. It also has a 250w power rating if we ever wanted to run more power, and would tune up in GMRS or the ham band if we wanted to move in the future.
Here is a couple of more pictures of the install. I have plans to test another one of these in the coming weeks and test it as well, but will let this one be in service for a week or more for reports to be made. Then a decision will be made about which one to leave installed permanently.
Until then, please pass along your thoughts as we work to improve this system and make our repeater operate smoother.
