Fun on ten with JA’s and Aurora

Just when you think you’ve done it all in twenty years of radio – something bites you and surprises you.

I went to the shack last night to kill some time and to try to bring in a few new ones on ten meters, and little did I know I was walking into great propagation as well as excellent space weather – including aurora that was visible in Virginia, and very evident in communications.  Not only in the videos below of  JAs, but even folks from the Caribbean and other places were difficult to understand.  There were PSK31 signals that we could not decode.  It all makes sense now.  See this link as well for info about the aurora: http://www.wtvr.com/news/wtvr-northern-lights-seen-in-the-southern-us-monday-20111025,0,5039338.htmlstory

You can hear the aurora enhanced propagation in this first and second video very well, that is also probably affected by the over the pole signal path.  The last video has a little less flutter to the signal.  All excellent QSOs and a great time on the air.
