Buddipole portable at the beach

Antenna Party

Ok, I am only like two months late in writing this article, but I wanted to post some thoughts on what I did with the buddipole and Par 6 meter loop at the beach in September. They both served as very nice portable antennas. Easy to setup and configure, easy to operate and easy to take down. Here are a few of my thoughts on what I did.

NVIS antennas

Antenna PartyGuys - N4RVR is working on getting an NVIS configured antenna setup at his QTH for regional work on the low bands. He sent along this email from K5KVH via an NVIS mailing list. Check it out for an idea of how to setup an NVIS antenna with a wire reflector near the ground to add gain to the antenna, and stay tuned for more NVIS info in the near future.

Stacking Par OA-50 6 meter loops

Antenna Party

After operating on 6 meters for a year with a single OA-50 Par loop, I decided that it was time to upgrade a little bit. I made the decision to add a second loop and here is how things went. This article is mainly about the install, as I haven't had a whole lot of change to assess difference between the single loop and the stacked pair.

G5RV repairs

Antenna PartyAfter writing my article last year about the bullet proof G5RV that I put up here, I was pretty comfortable with how the installation went and enjoyed using the antenna on a regular basis. I arrived home from vacation a few days ago to find that one of my neighbors branches had fallen on it and snapped off a leg. Here is the details on the repair.

End fed dipoles

Antenna PartyWho ever thought an end fed dipole (an interesting contradiction) would be a reality. When I was building dipoles in Brad’s back yard when we were 13 or so I wish it had been this easy. I would like to share what I feel is one of the easiest antenna solutions that is available in amateur radio today. (photo credit: univ radio)
